Using CueStream on a recruiter phone screen
Nothing is shared on a phone call, so the invisibility question never arises. The hard problem is a different one: one microphone, two people, and no separate channel to work from.
One microphone, two voices
On a video call CueStream gets two clean streams (the call audio from your computer, and you from your microphone), so telling the speakers apart is free. Put a phone call on speaker and both voices arrive mixed into a single microphone input. Phone mode exists for exactly this: it separates the two speakers out of that one channel, so the transcript stays labelled and answers respond to the recruiter’s question rather than to your own last sentence.
Why you do not need headphones
The obvious workaround is a headset, so your microphone never hears the other side at all. Acoustic echo cancellation removes the need: the recruiter’s voice coming out of your speakers is recognised and subtracted rather than mistaken for you. Speakerphone on the desk, laptop microphone, no extra hardware.
Optional voice enrollment
Reading a short passage once gives CueStream a fingerprint of your voice, which makes the separation more reliable on a noisy line. It is optional, and it exists for phone screens specifically. The recording is discarded as soon as the fingerprint is computed, and the fingerprint itself stays on your machine.
On a phone screen, the real risk is silence
Nobody can see you, so nothing needs hiding, but they can hear a four-second pause while you read. Answers are written to be startable on the first line and to sound spoken rather than recited, and the habit that works is to begin talking as the first sentence lands, the way you would if you were thinking out loud.
Does the recruiter hear anything from CueStream?
No. It never plays sound, and it only reads your microphone. Nothing is inserted into the call.
Does it work if I take the call on my computer instead?
Yes, and it works better. A call through the computer gives CueStream two separate audio streams instead of one mixed one, which is the easier case.
