Using CueStream in a Microsoft Teams interview
Teams behaves like Zoom for audio and for sharing. The difference worth reading is about whose laptop you are sitting at.
The managed-laptop problem, first
Teams interviews are often taken on a corporate machine, and that is the one setup where the capture-exclusion flag is beside the point. A managed Windows device can run endpoint monitoring that enumerates processes, logs installed software, or blocks unapproved executables outright, none of which involves looking at your screen, so none of which is affected by a window being excluded from capture. If the machine belongs to a company, interview on a different one.
How it hears the call
On your own machine, the desktop Teams client and Teams in the browser both play the interviewer through your selected Windows output device. CueStream captures that stream and your microphone separately. It does not connect to Teams, does not appear in the Teams app sidebar, and needs no permission from anyone’s Teams administrator.
Sharing and Teams recordings
Screen and window sharing carry the same exclusion as anywhere else, and a Teams recording is made from the shared stream, so the recorded file matches what the interviewer saw live. Teams live captions and the meeting transcript are generated from audio, so they contain only what was actually said out loud.
Interviews booked through Teams that turn out to be phone calls
Some recruiters send a Teams invite and then call your mobile instead. That is a phone screen rather than a video call, and it uses a different part of CueStream: one microphone picking up both sides of a speakerphone call, with the two voices separated.
Can a Teams admin see what else is running on my computer?
Not through Teams itself. But the device-management tooling that usually accompanies a corporate Teams deployment can, which is exactly why a personal machine is the right place for an interview.
Does it work with Teams in the browser?
Yes. The audio path is identical, because the browser plays the call through the same Windows output device the desktop client uses.
